Prudential Malibu Realty wants you and your home to be safe and dry this rainy season. Here is a list of tips to help you do so.
1. Caulk cracks around windows and doors to prevent water from seeping inside.
2. Remove dead branches that could potential fall during heavy rain and cause damage.
3. Clean Gutters: Remove leaves branches, and debris from gutters which can cause an overflow of water and rot woodwork in the surrounding area.
4. Lower the water level in your swimming pools. An overflow of chlorinated water can be harmful to your garden and grass.
5. Remember to turn off automated sprinkler systems.
6. Place sandbags around home to fill in low areas.
7. Install check valves to prevent water from backing up into the drains of your home.
8. Check drainage around home to prevent water infiltration.

With Thanksgiving near and Christmas around the corner, Prudential Malibu Realty wants you to know you don’t have to forgo holiday charms when selling a home. The key is subtlety, and if achieved can create a warm inviting environment. Below are some tips on creating the perfect holiday spirit for selling a home without overdoing it and alienating potential buyers.
1. Don’t go big
- Stay away from “cute”, big and clutter. Mix in small centerpieces, wreaths and stay away from room engulfing trees that defy gravity.
2. Incorporate hints of holiday colors
- Colors can hint at your holiday joy and have been correlated to changes in mood. For example, Red has been shown to increase levels of excitement and energy.
3. Holiday cheer we can hear, smell, taste and see
- You can also include things like holiday music, scented candles and gingerbread cookies on top of your visual decorations.
4. A simple clean Christmas tree
- You can exceed the expectations of a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree but don’t get too grand, or too cluttered.
5. You don’t have to neglect the outside
- Incorporate items such as poinsettias and ditch the inflatable Santa Claus.
6. No decorations allowed post holidays
- Santa Clause in the spring is never a good thing
